6/1
The final tournament times have been published. Our game on 6/11 moved from 5pm to 5:30pm. And the championship game moved from 10:30am to 9:30am.
We will definitely play at least 3 games:
Wed 3-Jun 6:00
Sat 6 -Jun 12:00
Thurs 11-Jun 5:30
A few of you have mentioned that your daughter may not make a game. Please remind me again. (I know that Skylar cannot make the Wed game, but who else?)
Also, the league is going to try to supply umpires for the tournament games. But there’s no guarantee, so we need to be prepared to ump our games. Home and Away are determined by a coin flip before the game, so we won’t know if we need to ump until then. Both teams will be responsible for field prep.
Lastly, I need volunteers for the tournament games. Please see the schedule for details.
5/20
The tournament dates & times have been published. I've added them to the schedule. We need volunteers for these games. Please let me know how you can help.
5/13
Reminder: Game tomorrow at Eastlake HS at 6pm. This is the second to last game of the season.
A few girls will be out (Sidney, Stephanie, Emily, Krista), so we're going to be light. If there's any chance your daughter won't make it, please let me know. I'll be doing the lineups tonight.
We need a volunteer to be the field ump (behind second base). Please let me know if you can do it.
Other volunteers for tomorrow: Dugout (PJ), Snack (Robyn)
Tournament
More details coming soon, but here is what I know now:
"We will have a double elimination tournament with the Redmond teams. The first games will be Friday night June 5th, one at JV the other at Hartman. We will then play three to four games on Saturday the 6th at the JV field. Games will continue at both locations during the week of the 8th. The finals will be on Saturday the 13th at Hartman."
Please let me know if these dates won't work for you.
5/5
Friday’s game
The league changed the field. We’re now on Hartman 4 instead of 5. Game time is still 5pm.
Reminder: I won’t be there. Coach Dave and Christine will be organizing the games.
We’re good on volunteers for the games. Thanks to everyone for pitching in. We still have empty slots for the remaining games, however. Please see the chart at the end of this page.
5/3
Good game yesterday
I thought the girls played well. They hit well off Coach Dave and made some good defensive plays (especially the catches by Abigail and Emily!). The other team had some strong hitters, which made a big difference. Otherwise, I thought we matched up pretty well against them. Thanks again to the volunteers for helping out…and to Robyn for taking on the dugout duty at the last minute.
Pitching
For the rest of the season, I’d like to give the girls who enjoy pitching more time doing it. Please ask your daughter if she likes to pitch in the games. I haven’t heard any complaints yet, so I assume everyone likes it, which is fine. But I’m wondering if they’ll give you a more candid answer. If you hear that she doesn’t really prefer it, please let me know.
Schedule this week
Practice Tues 5-May 5:30 Rose Hill Junior High
Game 8 Fri 8-May 5:00 Hartman 5 Home team
Dugout: Robyn, Snack: Jennifer, Homeplate umpire: Milloy, Field prep: Higashi, Scorekeeper: Allyn
Game 9 Sat 9-May 3:30 EHS JV Away team
Dugout: PJ, Snack: PJ, Field umpire: Higashi
Rachel and I are away at Camp Orkila this weekend, so we’re going to miss the games. Coach Dave will be running them. I’m hoping Coach Christine can be there to help as well. I will put together the lineups and position sheets in advance and bring them to Tuesday’s practice.
Volunteers
We’re light on volunteers for these games. PLEASE sign up for these spots. Ask husbands, wives, cousins, whoever can help out, especially someone who hasn’t yet.
Claudine – any chance Lawyer can be the plate umpire on Friday? If not, maybe Christine can do it.

Team photo day
We're on for Saturday, 5/2, at 10:30am at Redmond Junior High.
This should give us plenty of time to get the pictures done and then go to our game at Hartman 5 at 12pm. The packets to fill out will be available at the photo station.
Please let me know if you cannot make it tomorrow at this time. The other option is to go on May 18th (a Monday) for makeup day.
(Backstory: the coordinator for the photo timeslots was not given the list of AAA softball teams, which is why we didn't have an assigned time nor were given any notice. Great, I know.)
4/29
Schedule change reversal
Sorry for the churn. It turns out our move from 5/14 to 5/16 is NOT going to happen. We’re keeping the originally planned game at 6pm on Thurs, 5/14 at Eastlake High School. I’ve updated the master schedule below.
Backstory (if you care)
The switch from Thurs to Sat was an effort by the other league to provide the girls an opportunity to play on the nice varsity field instead of the smaller JV field. Turns out, however, that the other team can’t do it – too many Sat conflicts. The other coach was super apologetic about asking us to reverse this.
4/27
Schedule change
I was notified by the league today of two changes to our schedule. Please adjust your calendars. Hopefully these don’t pose any inconvenience for you.
Thurs, May 14 MOVES to Saturday, May 16 at 1pm
Thurs, May 21 MOVES to Friday, May 29 at 6pm
I’ve updated the master schedule below to reflect these changes.
4/22
Interlock game
Interesting game on Wed. It was our second interlock game (with a team from another league) and the difference showed. They were all much bigger and older. Our girls played well despite this and didn’t get down about it. They did a good job stealing third base too, which is what we worked on in the previous practice.
4/19
Yesterday’s game
Overall, this was a good game. I thought the girls batted well, ran bases well, and made a number of good defensive plays.
Pitching will continue to be the hardest part of the season, as it’s a difficult skill to learn. We will continue to dedicate time to it at every practice. I *highly* encourage parents to work with the girls pitching at home as well – either against a wall with a sock or in the backyard. (The distance from the rubber to the plate is about 17 paces.)
I will be rotating through every position all season, so every girl will have multiple opportunities to play everywhere. I’m keeping track in a spreadsheet to make sure it stays equal.
This was the first game that we included base stealing, and the girls did a great job taking advantage. Going forward we need to make sure we have a coach at third base to help with this. I should have done this yesterday.
The other team was really good. They had some very solid pitchers and batters. It was a fun team to play against. It should give our girls some competitive inspiration.
Lastly, I ended the game at the two hour mark as that was the direction I was given by the league. The purpose is to make sure the following game can start on time. I was told this was very important. The mistake I made is that I don’t think there was any game following ours, so I could have let our girls get one more at-bat. I’ll do a better job at this going forward.
Game 5 volunteers
· Dugout: Claudine Milloy
· Snack: Laurie Fulton
· Field umpire: NEED VOLUNTEER (this person plays behind second base and makes calls on the bases)
Volunteers
The parent volunteers have been great. I really appreciate the help. There are still a number of empty slots, however. We need to get these filled. (See the list below)

Redwest league website is here: http://redwestll.org. I find it a little hard to use (the information is all over the place), but it’s a good source for rules, events, etc.
